The Lt. vz. 38, later known as the Panzer 38(t) in German service, was a Czechoslovak light tank praised for its reliability, ease of maintenance, and balanced combat performance. Armed with a 37mm Škoda A7 gun and two 7.92mm machine guns, it offered solid firepower against early-war armor and infantry. Its riveted armor provided good protection for its class, while a 125 hp engine enabled a top speed of around 42 km/h, giving it strong mobility on various terrain. After Germany’s annexation of Czechoslovakia, the tank was absorbed into the Wehrmacht and saw extensive use during the invasions of Poland, France, and the early stages of Operation Barbarossa. The Lt. vz. 38’s proven design later served as the chassis for several German self-propelled guns and tank destroyers, marking it as one of the most effective light tanks of its era.
