The BL 6-inch 26 cwt gun was a British heavy field artillery piece used extensively during World War I and into World War II. Firing 6-inch (152mm) shells, it combined long-range firepower with solid reliability, capable of delivering high-explosive rounds up to 14,000 yards. Mounted on a box trail carriage with a hydro-spring recoil system, it offered stability and accuracy in sustained bombardment roles. Though heavy, it could be towed by mechanized tractors, improving mobility across the battlefield. The 26 cwt (hundredweight) designation referred to the barrel weight, distinguishing it from earlier versions. Used in counter-battery fire, fortress bombardment, and general support roles, the BL 6-inch 26 cwt gun was a workhorse of British heavy artillery, known for its durability and battlefield effectiveness.
