The B-239, a Finnish designation for the export version of the American-built Brewster F2A Buffalo, was a carrier-based fighter adapted for land-based operations by the Finnish Air Force during World War II. Stripped of naval gear to reduce weight, the B-239 became a surprisingly effective dogfighter in Finnish hands. Powered by a Wright R-1820 radial engine, it reached speeds of up to 500 km/h and was armed with four 12.7mm machine guns, offering solid firepower for its class. Though considered outdated by other air forces, the B-239 excelled in the hands of Finnish pilots during the Continuation War, achieving one of the highest kill-to-loss ratios of the conflict. Its success was a testament to pilot skill, tactical use, and the rugged reliability of the aircraft in harsh northern conditions.
