Interview with designer Joseph Heuer (Polskabricks)

In this series we want to introduce some of our designers by interviewing them. Today we start with Joseph Heuer also known as Polskabricks on Instagram.

Hi Joseph, thank you for doing this interview. I hope our customers and fans will like getting to know you a litle bit more. Let’s get started.

First of all, can you tell something about yourself?

My name is Joseph. I’m 20 going on 21 at the end of January here. Still living with my parents as I only just started a full time job a few months back. And I live in the United States.

In which part the States do you live?

I live in Wisconsin.

Did you play with LEGO as a kid?

I’ve been playing with LEGO for a little over half my life.

Can you remember what your first LEGO was?

I think my first set, that wasn’t Duplo, was 7902. Got it as a get well gift after a surgery.

Surgery? Oh dear, nothing bad happend I hope?

No, it was just a minor operation, nothing dramatic.

When it comes to sets that Lego releases, what is favorite theme currently or from the past?

My favorite theme was probably Indiana Jones sets.

That was a good line. With some pretty cool military sets. What would be your favorite line that we currently have?

Current favorite lime? Star Wars I guess, since I have ashelf dedicated to it.

How did you end up in the wonderfull world of military Lego?

Trying to remember I believe it’s when I learned one of my relatives enlisted. I became very interested in all things military. Of course it started out with building blocky tanks and planes. Then slowly started to actually go for designing real vehicles after I got addicted to gaming.

Can you remember what the first model was you build for yourself?

My first design was probably a Swiss Bf-109, which took inspiration from Brickmanias older 109 model, that file is long gone as it was made on LDD.

Why did you join the OmahaBricks team?

As I began to improve my skills and noticed I had people becoming interested in my work and people asking, I knew I had to get my designs out. I tried rebrickable but I wasn’t really feeling it was working out. And after seeing a few of Katya’s designs on OB, and helping build one that would be releases. I decided to give it a try. And it’s a decision I don’t regret.

Do you have a favorite Lego part you use for your designs?

I don’t really have a favorite. One part I do use a lot is probably part 50945 if I’m doing a tank that requires 1.5 or 2 wide tracks.

Dark Bluish Gray is clearly the most used Lego color in all our designs, but which other color do you like to use the most?

I’ll use any color that will match with what I’m working on. If that be Light Bluish Gray, Reddish Brown, Dark Green, Dark Tan, the list can go on.

If your model needs a camo scheme, is there a combination you like the most of all those colors you just named?

Well I haven’t done many camo’s yet and most are still experimental. But I usually combine Dark Bluish Grey and Dark Green.

Which of your own designs in the OmahaBricks store are you the most proud?

This question is a tough one. Though I know the OT M-60, Strv M/37, and Sea Gladiator are at the top. Though maybe not for long.

Oh no, I’m not going to let you get away with that, you have to pick one!

Since it has to be one I’ll chose the Strv M/37. One of Mt older designs that I kept updating as I became more experienced.

And finaly, can you give a little spoiler of one model you are going to release at OmahaBricks in the near future?

Expect anything at this point.

Thanks Joseph for this interview. We look forward to seeing more of your work.
